The world’s most expensive hat
The work and poem, as he called it, of world-famous designer Louis Mariette – The Hat of Love, a masterpiece inspired by a bird. The extravagant-looking headpiece owes its exorbitant price primarily to its diamond and platinum content. The price of the magnificent hat is $2.7 million. Louis Mariette thought outside the box and became a designer after a career as a serious sportsman. His hat, which has enjoyed unbroken popularity since 2004, was presented at Milan Fashion Week. Louis Mariette’s well-known clients include Jerry Hall, Kate Moss and Pink. Naturally, celebrities order custom hats from him. The Chapeau d’Amour, or Love Hat, is inspired by a special Seychelles bird, with three extra-long pheasant feathers in its shape. Its exceptional price is mainly due to its special material, the platinum fabric, and the 12 diamonds that adorn this hat. It is worth 542 million forints, making it the most expensive hat in the world.
The largest straw hat in the world
The world’s largest straw hut is located in the courtyard of the unique Straw Hut Museum in Harghita County, Transylvania. The straw hat, which is 2 metres in diameter and has deservedly entered the record books, can be tried on by visitors, if they can. The hat, incredible as it may seem, was forged by one man and sewn by four in just 14 days. It was made using 500 metres of raw material, 22 500 straws and 1799 metres of thread. The straw hat weighs 2.65 kg. Some say Kőrispatak is the end of the world, others say it is the middle, it’s just a matter of opinion,” said Lajos Szőcs, whose family has been involved in hat-making for three generations, and thus created the country’s first Straw Hat Museum. He set up the museum in a renovated traditional farmhouse, which is unique in the world. In one room you can see all the different types of straw hats in the country, in another room you can see various utensils and ornaments, and there is also a room where you can see the technical process of hat making, from harvesting to wearing the hat.
