6 tips for hat cleaning
Here are 6 tips to keep your hat clean:
Tip 1
If you have grease or dirt on the inside of your hat, sprinkle it with cornstarch or talcum powder. Wait several hours for the powder to absorb the dirt, then brush it out with a soft hat or cloth brush. This method can also effectively remove make-up stains from the inside of your hat/hat.
Tip 2
If your hat is very dirty and dusty, lightly dampen it with a mixture of sal ammoniac and water in equal parts, then brush it out gently with a soft brush. Then dry it in a dry flannel cloth. But be careful! Always be careful when washing with water, as the hat can easily deform.
Tip 3
Brush the hat with a soft brush after each use. Clean from top to bottom, from the top of the head to the brim. If the hat is not stained and greasy, no water or chemical treatment is necessary, this dusting is sufficient.
Tip 4
The inside of your hat won’t get greasy if you put a napkin or drinking paper under the leather strip. Of course, you’ll need to change it from time to time, as it gets dirty and greasy easily.
Tip 5
If your hat is very wet, shake off what rain you can and leave it to dry at room temperature, but be careful never to put it directly next to the radiator, as it can easily deform and the heat can cause the hat to shrink. Don’t put it in the cupboard while it’s still wet, always wait until it dries. Put it in a hat tin or, if you don’t have one, in a dish that fits the hat. This will dry better and avoid deforming the brim or top of the hat.
Tip 6
A hat made of white or light-coloured felt is best cleaned with a special mixture you make yourself, consisting of:
– 10 dkg zinc oxide
– 10 dkg talc
– 1 dl petrol
This is the cleaning agent to rub your hat clean. After drying, always beat the dusty cleaner out of it!
